Ryan Shin

Ryan’s practice covers a wide range of corporate work, including reviewing commercial contracts, leading due diligence on target companies, drafting and negotiating definitive agreements in M&A transactions, preparing loan and security documentation, and advising on leases and property acquisitions and sales. He independently manages a broad range of files, including corporate transactions, commercial real estate closings, and private lending and secured financing transactions, and assists in guiding the firm’s Corporate Clerks to maintain organized and timely workflow.

A long-time colleague of Brett and Garth from their predecessor firm, Ryan has been an indispensable member of the team for many years. He is known for his meticulous attention to detail, technical precision, and tireless work habits, consistently going the extra mile to ensure nothing is overlooked. His pursuit of accuracy and his client focused mindset help protect clients’ interests at every stage of a transaction and contribute to smooth, well-executed closings.

Ryan articled and began his career at R&D’s predecessor firm before expanding his experience at a boutique real estate and commercial practice. He returned to the team in 2021, bringing with him valuable insight across both corporate, real estate, and secured lending matters. Colleagues and clients alike respect him for his reliability, professionalism, and collaborative approach, as well as his ability to deliver high quality work under demanding timelines.

Academic Background

Ryan received his Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) from Queen’s University Faculty of Law and was a recipient of the Queen’s Law course prize in Public Law. Prior to law school, he received a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) from the University of Toronto Scarborough.
