13 Dec Celebrating One Year of Innovation at R&D LLP
As we begin a new year, we reflect on the successes and growth that defined 2023 for R&D LLP. We are delighted to share some of our key highlights:
Firm Evolution
New Firm Name: R&D LLP launched under a new banner on January 1, 2023, with the same great team you have come to know and trust!
Litigation Department Expansion
Significant Growth: Our litigation department welcomed a new associate in February and a new litigation assistant in May, enhancing our ability to serve our clients with added resources, expertise, and experience.
Notable Achievement: Garth Dingwall’s successful result in the reported and precedent-setting decision in Sivasubramaniam v. Mohammad which he litigated at the Superior Court of Justice and Court of Appeal has now been cited by the courts over 25 times since its release in 2018. This decision was selected as a notable case in the Real Property Reports and dealt with the availability of the remedy of specific performance including within the context of a rising real estate market. In October 2023, the new release of Real Estate Practice in Ontario, 10th Edition – one of the leading texts referred to by real estate lawyers – cited and referred directly to the decision’s import as to the law of specific performance.
Partnerships
Community Engagement: R&D LLP proudly sponsored and participated in events hosted by Schulich Startups, fostering education and community engagement for Toronto-based startups.
Helping Entrepreneurs: R&D LLP acted as lead legal sponsor of Pitchforce, supporting Canadian startups (including R&D clients) as they pitched to panelists comprised of VCs and angel investors from Silicon Valley, New York, and other tech hubs.
Corporate Deal Flow
Moving Money: Our corporate department helped to complete many legal transactions, with an aggregate deal value of more than $50M.
